Correct cleaning of surfaces
The longevity of a tiled surface, in addition to the quality of the materials, is strictly tied to the quality of installation and correct maintenance.
Correct maintenance includes the whole surface made up of ceramic slabs and the joints, which for their different nature react differently.
Ordinary cleaning at the end of installation
After the tiles have been laid, to eliminate residual traces of the products used for the laying of ceramic tiles, acid based descaling agents diluted in water must be used, in the percentages indicated on the packages of products available on the market. If necessary, repeat the operation until all undesired traces have been removed. Be careful to thoroughly rinse the surface after each operation, removing all residues of detergents that may be harmful for the joints.
Do not use abrasive methods that may cause scratches.
Ordinary cleaning of single fired, double fired and glazed porcelain stoneware tiles
Always use neutral or basic detergents to degrease.
In order to avoid the abrasive effect of the dirt carried by pedestrians, such as sand or all types of dust, simple measures can be taken (use of mats at door entrances) to reduce accumulation, and removing dirt and dust via constant ordinary cleaning.
Ordinary cleaning of full body porcelain stoneware
Always use neutral or basic detergents available on the market. Only for specific cleaning, such as persistent surface stains, use the products indicated in the table below. (Maintenance).
Do not use wax or silicon based substances which, due to the extremely low absorption rate of full body porcelain stoneware products, would form a thin surface film that would allow for dirt to be more easily deposited on the products.
Do not use very abrasive products that may cause small incisions, especially on honed products.
To maintain the brilliance of honed floors it is a good idea to place large sized door mats at the entrance to the area, to trap dirt and dust found on the shoes of the users. For settings with a large amount of traffic, experts indicate that 6 metre door mats can remove up to 80% of dirt.
Maintenance of full body porcelain stoneware products depends obviously on the type of use. When used for raised floors, it is a good idea to avoid the use of water or excessive vapour, in consideration of the presence of plant systems under the floor level. In curtain wall claddings it is a good idea to avoid violent jets of water to not damage the insulating characteristics. For the maintenance of materials laid with adhesives, it is necessary to distinguish between post-installation and ordinary and extraordinary cleaning. In the first case, use acid based products (Decaltop), after having wet the tiles to avoid damage of the joints caused by the acid solution. In other cases, we advise the use of normal or basic degreasing detergents.
